After three sold-out screenings for its premiere at Northwest Film Forum, Collide-O-Scope brings their Seattle-centric showstopper to Clock-Out Lounge for a special encore presentation not to be missed!

Comprised of moments from over 46 films shot in Seattle, and a few irresistible facsimiles, Once Upon a Time in Seattle is part love letter, part loony action adventure, and part free-associative meditation on the transience of landscape in a city that has always had a complicated relationship with honoring its past while moving swiftly (recklessly?) into the future.

There is no linear narrative, and dialogue is kept to a minimum. The city itself is both location and protagonist, while the function of the human characters, or perhaps more accurately, ciphers, is that of a vessel to move us through the city and occasionally offer loose context or comic relief. No single existing shot or sequence is sustained longer than a minute, with most individual shots lasting less than 20 seconds, and over half clocking in at 5 seconds or less. The result is a deceptively complex amalgamation of wholly unrelated material, and an impressively unique editorial/directorial achievement.

Surprisingly weaving numerous throughlines from the many disparate existing narratives, while leaving much open to the viewer’s interpretation, scene chronology floats between seemingly non sequitur, to surprisingly, quietly poignant, depending on the viewer’s own history with the city. A hyper-local, one-of-a-kind film experience and an opportunity to examine Seattle’s ever-changing landscape as seen through the camera lens, Once Upon a Time in Seattle offers a unique portal to examine our city’s topography (and vibe!) of the past, both near and distant.
