The Crocodile Presents: SNOOPER w/ Advoids, Muñeca

Saturday 07/08/23The Crocodile Presents:SNOOPER w/ Advoids, Mueca$16 ADV / $18 DOS9:00pm doors / 9:30pm show21+https://snooper7.bandcamp.com/Snper (the Project) began as a collaboration between local Nashville punk mainstay Connor Cummins and Blair Tramel, an early education teacher with a sideline in wickedly funny animation and art. As their cassette tapes and homemade videos began to find scattered fans around the world, the duo brought the Project to the live stage in late 2021 and Snper (the Band) was born.Featuring one of the wildest live shows out there, as well a maelstrom of puppets, 8 bit animation, papier-mch, whistles, flashing lights and a whirling dervish of bodies, Snper commits the live act to a studio setting and sets the stage for one of the most promising punk debut albums in decades. But dont take our word for it; heres Henry Rollins, at-length on the magic of Snper:In the briefest of descriptions, Snper is a band who, in a 33 1/3 rpm world, make 45 rpm music they play at 78 and it completely works.https://advoids.bandcamp.com/album/advoidshttps://munecasea.bandcamp.com/

They are accompanied on this self-healer artist journey by a band of space musicians who bring an electronic ambient indie alternative pop vibe to the live performances https://jgraves.bandcamp.com/album/fortress-of-funThe work of Portland, Oregon post-punkers J. Graves is caught between the darkness of various emotional traumas and a musically buoyant approach to overcoming hardship. Streaks of wiry guitar and propulsive percussion provides the backdrop for narratives detailing heartache, regret, and anger and maybe even the stray bit of joy. Channeling the unfiltered emotion of early Sleater-Kinney and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the band comprised of singer-guitarist Jessa Graves, bassist Kelly Clifton, and drummer Aaron MacDonald mold their sinewy sound around bursts of intimate revelation and universal experience @bpmny https://intercom.bandcamp.com/album/night-measures-2Harris Thurmond is proud of the bands he has graduated from, but hed rather look forward. Its hard to blame him. His new project, Intercom Heights, shines with the joy of an artist discovering a new source of creativity, of a songwriter finding collaborators equally obsessed over a collective vision. Thurmond was an integral part of the Seattle music scene during the grunge years and his credits are nothing to scoff at, playing guitar and writing in Hammerbox, Orbiter and Sanford Arms, but hes been in Austin for 15 years. Hes seen the same thing here: The city has changed, the scene has evolved, and hes been creating moving art through it all.Thurmond joined a band in Austin called New Roman Times, who put out three albums, two of which Thurmond was a key contributor on. Though the band fell apart, Thurmond found great joy in making music with the group, particularly Josie Fluri, who played bass and sang. After the band split, Thurmond did what he always did: write. He was inspired by the interplay of male and female harmonies, that perfect moment at which they meld and form something entirely new and unexpected. When Fluri approached Thurmond to gauge his interest in a new project, he immediately found a fit for the new music he was working on. When Josie first said, I would love to do something together again, that became an important motivating factor for me. They found the groups third member, Meg Bernhard (a former member of Black Books) and Intercom Heights was born a short while later. The bands forthcoming debut record, Night Measures is a prime example of what happens when three musicians find their platonic collaborators.

David J (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Night Crickets)SORIAH is the stage persona of Enrique Ugalde, an internationally-acclaimed throat singer and ritual artist who generates experimental soundscapes where ancient traditions are revealed through the lens of modern experience.Birthed in one of the most historically isolated locations on the planet, Tuvan throat singing is a musical sound like no other. Mysterious, primordial and awash in a deeply visceral drone, it invokes the full range of the natural world from deep mountain roots to the whistle of birds in flight.SORIAH weaves Tuvan throat singing, pre-Columbian sounds, classical Indian raga, and modern Western styles, looping and processing his voice and traditional instruments into lush sonic tapestries. His lyrics are often written in Nahuatl (Mexica/Aztec) or Tuvan, preserving and expressing cultural mysteries with reverence and wonder. In 2008 SORIAH was awarded Best Foreigner at the st-Khree Festival in Tuva and received the Third Laureate award in the 2008 Fifth Quinquennial Ethnomusicology Symposium, the highest honor a non-native Tuvan had yet achieved in this field. In 2019 he won the award for best Kargyraa in the International Khmei in the Center of Asia Festival, in 2020, he was awarded the title Magical Musician of Khmei, and in 2022, he won the first place in the International Khoomei in the Center of Asia online competition. His entry into the Tuvan Anthropological Museum speaks to the deep impact his work has within its native culture. When not visiting or competing in Tuva, SORIAH showcases to sold-out crowds in Europe, Japan, Mexico, and the United States. He has shared the stage with artists including Peter Murphy and David J (Bauhaus), cEvin Key (Skinny Puppy), Perry Farrell (Janes Addiction), Liberation Movement, and Clan of Xymox. Monday 05/01/23The Crocodile Presents:sunking w/ Jared Price & wet peynt$18 ADV / $22 DOS8pm doors / 8:30pm show21+https://sunkingexperiment.bandcamp.com/At its core, this is experimental music, says Bobby Granfelt. Theres elements of jazz and indie rock and hip-hip and electronic music, but ultimately, sunking is all about exploring the nooks and crannies between those genres, about throwing out all of the rules and expectations in search of something completely fresh and original. On Smug, the LA duos captivating debut for ANTI- Records, its safe to say theyve found it. Crafted piecemeal over the course of several years, the collection is wildly inventive and utterly hypnotic, filtering the pairs bold vision and virtuosic musicianship though the brash, DIY ethos of an underground punk band. Live horns and dreamy guitars brush up against lush synthesizers and propulsive beats here, with each of the albums 19 immersive, instrumental tracks clocking in around the two-minute mark. As mesmerizing as it all can be, theres also something perpetually unsettled about the music heresometimes its a dissonance or cacophony that craves resolution, sometimes its a groove that resists fitting neatly into any recognizable time signatureand thats by design. Nothing is sacred, nothing is precious. Like Johnny Greenwood scoring a David Lynch videogame, Smug is at once beautiful and unnerving, hyper-focused and surreal, challenging and transcendent.https://jaredprice.bandcamp.com/ https://wetpeynt.bandcamp.com/

Clock-Out Lounge Presents: The Briefs w/ Lysol, 38 Coffin

Clock-Out Lounge Presents: The Briefs w/ Special Guests Lysol, 38 Coffin Friday May 26th8:30pm doors21+$20 cover Punk rockers dont age, they just get weirder, baby. Twenty years have zipped by, and The Briefs are as frantic, energetic, and snotty as ever. Like a scud missile from outer space, the bands debut album, Hit After Hit, set out to destroy the new Millenniums flaccid alt-rock sceneand, in turninspired two decades of raucous radioactive fallout. Sewing together a tattered tapestry of 70s-style punkwith a nod toward Dangerhouse Records, DEVO, Thrasher Magazine, and ABBAthese iconic bleach blonde brutes have urged countless kids to grab a junk guitar, a pair of second-hand sunglasses, and a bottle of peroxide. What started with four idiot savants in a downtown Seattle basement has led to a remarkable two-decade career that has spawned some of the catchiest anti-hits this side of Y2K. Any self-respecting rocker will argue: Hit After Hit, (2000); Off the Charts, (2003); Sex Objects, (2004); and Steal Yer Heart, (2005); are more than essential punk classicstheyre commandments, damn it. Sweat-drenched singles like Rotten Love, and Poor and Weird may have even aided in reversing punks once terminal diagnosis. But how have they survived this long, this loud? A dynamic, leave-everything-on-the-stage live show paired with relentless US and European touring has garnered the band a fierce following (although you cant spot Briefs fan based on age, they are indeed known to harbor a certain swagger). 2008-2012 saw a muchneeded cat nap for the band, but diehard pals will tell you this was no radio silence. Guitarist Daniel Travanti formed Sharp Objects and co-founded Modern Action Records; guitarist Steve E. Nix and bassist Kicks formed The Cute Lepers; drummer Chris Brief formed Suspect Parts. In the end, it all came back around to the beginningto The Briefs. Yeah, the songs are brief (not unlike glue-induced euphoria), but the legacy is stickier than industrial hold hairspray. 2012-2015 brought fans a new box set of their previously released 7 singles, Singles Only, (2012; Modern Action Records), as well as the Briefs fifth LP release, Odd Numbers (2015), a love letter littered with studio outtakes, demos, and live recordings. The band also performed a number of U.S. West Coast tours, completed an East Coast tour with The Damned, and shook the main stage at Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas. In 2017-2018, the boys toured Europe on three separate occasions, played a set at Rebellion Festival in the UK, and recorded Platinum Rats, perhaps their most vivacious and vital album to date. 2019 once again had the boys back on the road, first with The Stitches in the USA, followed by a slew of club and festival dates throughout Europe. Whats next? Whatever they want. A US tour alongside the legendary Dead Boys kicks off Fall 2022, with European dates coming shortly thereafter. For the Briefs, the radiation is still in the water and – good news for the survival of our speciesthe mutations are alive and kicking. Hayley Crusher Cai
